Lindab makes sustainability data available
In northern Europe, Lindab also has an extensive offering of roofs, facades and roof drainage. The team working with BASTA and product assessments consists of Marie Ljungberg and Viktor Johansson. Based in Grevie on the Bjäre Peninsula, Lindab operates in 20 countries with about 5,000 employees.
Marie explains that Lindab has been working with BASTA for a long time and the ambition is that all self-manufactured products should be registered in the system. By registering products, Lindab keeps up to date on new requirements and can more easily follow up on legislation regarding construction products. A good example is the introduction of taxonomy requirements (EU taxonomy) in BASTA, which facilitates reporting for Lindab, but also for customers who want to make better product choices.
As more and more environmental labels, certifications and assessments, such as the taxonomy, become available, Marie and Lindab see that the BASTA system is a very useful tool for structuring important environmental information. Today, the products that are BASTA-registered are displayed on lindab.se. Here they also want to include additional available sustainability information from the BASTA system. For example, Lindab wants to use the BASTA system to show more clearly whether the product has an eBVD, contributes to an Environmental Building Certification, a Swedish Transport Administration assessment and, in the future, whether it meets the parts of the taxonomy's requirements that are highlighted in BASTA.
In addition to simplifying for the user, core data from BASTA can be used for environmental product declarations and the upcoming CSRD requirement (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive). Lindab is also following the development of digital product passports and preparing internally for how to work with this.
- It is great that BASTA is open to everyone. We see it as a great advantage that it is an open database and that an open API is offered. A great advantage is also that we own the assessment and information about our products. At the same time as auditing ensures that the information is correct along the entire chain, says Marie Ljungberg.
