France is about to introduce law on chemical substitution
France may obtain a national law on substitution of risk chemicals.
The bill, termed Detox, has passed the first vote in the National Assembly. The new law includes both information requirements and incentives for substitution.
The Detox bill entails the creation of a list of particularly dangerous chemicals that should be replaced. Furthermore, every two years the French manufacturers, importers and users will have to specify all the chemicals on the list that they still use.
The bill also offers incentives in the form of tax breaks for companies which replace the hazardous chemicals found on the list for less harmful substances.
