New procurement requirements for non-toxic preschool

Many municipalities have adopted plans to create as toxic-free preschool as possible. To make it easier for municipalities to set chemical requirements for the products procured for preschool, the Swedish Competition Authority, KKV, is now launching new requirements for toys and kitchen and serving equipment, as well as updated requirements for furniture and textiles.
This type of demand used to come from the Environmental Management Board, which is now defunct and whose tasks have been taken over by KKV. The requirements are drawn up together with expert groups for each product area, which includes representatives from the industry, procurement authorities, environmental organizations and suppliers. The requirements are voluntary to use and are developed at a basic level, and for some requirements there is also an advanced level.
"The requirements can of course be used both for procurement for the preschool and for other public activities," says Anna Christiansson, project manager at the Swedish Competition Authority in a comment on the authority's website. The Swedish Competition Authority, together with the Chemicals Inspection Agency, will distribute information to procurers and preschools about the new requirements. As part of this, interactive guidance is also being launched for the summer.
Requirements in other product areas
There are also other product areas where it may be relevant to set chemical requirements in procurement for preschools.
